What causes Hair loss?

Thinning hair and hair loss is a common problem, both men and women face. But it's true that men are more likely to lose their hair than women, mostly due to male pattern baldness (more on that later). Reasons can range from the simple and temporary—a nutrient deficiency—to the more complex, like an underlying health condition.

In many cases, there are ways to treat both male and female hair loss. It all depends on the cause. Here are some common and not-so-common reasons why you might be seeing less hair on your head.
Causes For Hair Loss

Hair Loss Due To Hormones
One of the most common causes for hair loss is known as female pattern or male pattern hair loss. This type of hair loss condition is a hereditary, if your father or mother had hair loss problems, then there is every chance that this problem would also catch you.

Hair loss is caused due to sex hormones. This type of hair loss is commonly seen in men and it will also end up in permanent condition. It can happen right from your puberty. This type of hair loss is less common in women, but there are a lot of women who have reported hair loss due to hormones. But, most often than not women would just experience temporary hair loss that is associated with hormones when they get pregnant. The hair loss normally happens to women when they are undergoing birth control or if they are experiencing menopause.

Medication Causes Hair Loss
There are different kinds of medications that you might be taking, right from treating your sickness problems to medicines that will help in reducing pain and inflammation in your body.

But, some of these medications are known to cause changes in the color of your hair, changes in the texture of your hair and also cause mild to moderate hair loss. The type of medication that you use and the dosage of medication that you consume will determine the severity of hair loss.

Medication hair loss is common in both men and women. There are quite a lot of medications that result in thinning of your hair and hair loss. Some of the common medications that result in hair loss are:
  • Birth control pills
  • Acne medications that are rich in Vitamin A
  • Antibiotics and antidepressants
  • Cancer medications
  • Thyroid medications
  • Hormone medications and high blood pressure medications.
The main thing here is that the side effects of these medications will tend to cease once you stop taking them. Your hair will start to grow once again after you have stopped taking the medications. So, this is not a matter to be too serious about.

Medical And Health Conditions
Alopecia areata is a disease that might befall on you which is a disease that will directly affect your hair. The disease will make your body’s immune system to assault the hair follicles in your scalp. This disease will result in patches of hair falling off from your body as well as your head. Also, if you are suffering from thyroid problems, then you might also be suffering from hair loss.

As the thyroid gland is the one that regulates the hormone levels in your body, there are chances that your body will suffer from hormonal imbalance when you suffer thyroid problems. This will result in hair loss. If you suffer from scalp infections, then you are sure to suffer from temporary hair loss until your scalp infections get healed. The area where your scalp is infected will suffer from temporary hair loss and once your scalp scar goes away, then you can see hair growing from your scalp once again.

Emotional Pain Results In Hair Loss
If you are a person who is constantly affected by emotional stress and strain, then there is every possibility that you will lose weight as well as suffer hair loss. Stress and strain not only affects your body but also affects your head and if you are not eating properly or poorly due to stress and strain, then you are sure to lose hair on your head.

The hair will stop growing and you will also notice hair to fall from your body. A few of the people also suffer from emotional disorder known as hair pulling syndrome or disorder which might also result in a few bald spots to show up on a person’s head.
