But if you have a recurring constipation you can try following home remedies and some lifestyle changes like doing more exercise, eating more fiber, and drinking more water.

Simple home remedies for constipation.

1) Always heed natures call
This is a preventative measure to help ward off those uncomfortable bouts of constipation in the future, when you feel like you need to go to the bathroom just go!
the longer you hold your colon will absorb more water from the stool making it harder and difficult to pass, you will feel all clogged up if you delay. So just listen to you body and empty your bowl as soon as you feel an urge, don't delay it at all.

2) Follow a fiber rich diet
You may have heard about how fiber helps to relieve constipation. Our body is perfect at processing organic foods rather than artificial and refined foods. Select a variety of natural fiber rich foods including sweet potatoes, apples, berries, apricots, peaches, pears, oranges, prunes, corn, peas, carrots, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower. And opt for the whole produce over juice as much as possible.

3) Drink a lot of water
Constipation occurs when your colon extracts most of the water from stool, and it moves very slowly in the colon resulting in irregular bowel moments. So first thing you should do is drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily and if you have constipation for several days drink lukewarm water.

4) Try olive oil
 As you know oils help heavy machinery to run smoothly. Your body is like a fully automatic machine and your stomach is like engine. As engine oil helps to run it smooth so can healthy oils like olive oil can help you relieve constipation and help to get the things moving through your colon. 

If taken regularly it can even prevent constipation. Consume table spoon of olive oil in the morning on empty stomach.

5) Figs
Figs (Anjeer), either dried or ripe, are packed with fiber. For relief from constipation, boil a few figs in a glass of milk, drink this mixture at night before bed. Make sure the mixture is warm when you drink it. Using a whole fruit for this purpose is much better as compared to syrups that are available commercially.

6) Lemon Juice
A warm glass of water with lemon and salt, first thing in the morning not only acts as a cleansing agent for the intestines, the salt content helps in quick and easy passage of stool. All you need to do is mix one teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of warm water. Add a pinch of salt to the solution. Drink this juice on an empty stomach to relieve constipation.

7) Prune juice
Prune juice is natural laxative as it contains high amount of fiber and sorbitol. Drink a glass of prune juice to relieve constipation. It takes a little time to act so allow at least 3-4 hours before you decide to one more glass or you can have diarrhea.  

8) Try Molasses
Consume one teaspoon of black strap molasses. You can add it to a cup of warm water or tea to dilute the taste. If you find that a teaspoon has not been effective, you can go as high as 1-2 tablespoons, but try less at first.


9) Baking Soda
Baking soda lies at the heart of home remedies. It’s is so incredibly versatile, and it pretty much does its job 95% of the time. It works incredibly well for constipation (and tummy aches in general) because it is a bicarbonate, which will encourage air to come out of you one way or another, and relieve pain from pressure. It also re-alkalizes the stomach, neutralizing the acid a little bit and helping things pass through your gut.

Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with ¼ cup of warm water. Drink all of the mixture-the quicker you finish it, the better it seems to work.

10) Psyllium seed husk (Isabgol)
Before going to bed take 2 table spoon full of psyllium seed husk with a glass of water or milk. see the result in the morning. It works partly by lubrication and partly by increasing the bulk of the intestinal contents, which stimulates bowel movement.
